About this book

This is a revised version of my earlier book Cancer Yet They Live – the first book that I wrote many years ago about cancer healing. This book provides hope and tells you how to heal your cancer. It has saved many lives.

A thought to begin with ...

As a scientist and professor in a university, I am fully aware of the requirement of objectivity in making conclusions.

I am aware that millions of dollars are being spent each year to do research on cancer. Even the most sophisticated equipment, drugs and the best brains could not cope with this dreaded disease. For me to tell you that roadside weeds could bring relief or “cure” cancer is too simple to be taken seriously. To the educated mind it seems like a big joke. However, a true scientist needs not be intimidated by this. For the business of science is to seek truth. To know is science, merely to assume that one knows is ignorance!

The events of the last few years did make me see many things in a new light. Perhaps, I ought to be more open-minded, see reality and be bold enough to accept ideas and practices even if I cannot explain them scientifically. To me, inability to explain means not knowing enough or not wanting to know enough.

As a Professor of Botany, I only know how to make use of 250 species of plants - and there are approximately 500,000 plant species on planet Earth. There is a saying: a little science drives you away from God, but a little bit more science brings you back to God!

Chapter 1

Heart to Heart

As a flower-man, it had never occurred to me that I would one day become involved in traditional medicine and what is more, devise a battle plan to fight against cancer. I had never been interested in medicine. However, 1995 became a significant year for me. I found myself in the midst of helpless, hopeless and terminally ill people and was advising them on how to fight their last battle to survive.

On reflection, how I became involved in this activity was an answered prayer. While taking my evening drives to my small farm, some 20 kilometers away from home, I often prayed, With the knowledge of plants You bestowed unto me, show me Lord, Your ways and how I can  be of help to others.

The answer came in a strange way. One day, Mr. Lee Kum Choon, then a stranger, called and requested to see me. He had to wait for me in the house because I had a prior commitment. Mr. Lee told me that with my experience in plants, I should be able to multiply and grow the rodent tuber which is used to assist the sick. Many cancer patients who had consumed this plant were believed to have received some relief. Without hesitation I took up his suggestion. I succeeded in mass-propagating this plant by the tissue culture method.

At first I was skeptical if this rodent tuber was of any value at all. What if someone dies after taking it? I contacted some relatives who had taken the leaves of this aroid plant before. They did not suffer from any side effects after taking them and are still alive! This reassured me that the plant and its leaves are safe for human consumption, in spite of the fact that some books say the plant is poisonous.

Not long afterwards, Ben came to see us for help. He suffered from liver cancer and was in a serious condition. His doctor gave him two months to live. After taking the rodent tuber for only a few days the pain in his abdomen disappeared. The feeling of tightness due to the swelling that he suffered also subsided. He felt good! Although he was on chemotherapy, he did not suffer the serious side effects of this treatment such as nausea, and he enjoyed  good appetite. He bought a wig but did not have the privilege to wear it for there was minimal hair loss. Looking at the faces of Ben and his wife Cindy I felt satisfied, rewarded and encouraged. Ben benefited by eating some apparently insignificant roadside herbs. He had outlived his doctor’s prediction many times over.

I began reading books on cancer and digested what have been written. Based on these readings, I have developed a strategy to fight cancer. Remember, cancer does not strike like a thunder bolt. It is a disease that often occurs because of one’s lifestyle. Sometimes, people who have contracted this disease have allowed it to develop within them. In this book I document the many cases which we have encountered. Sadly, most of the people who have come to see us are already in the advanced or fourth stage of cancer. They are helpless and have no other avenues to turn to. Taking herbs is probably their last chance to regain life. Indeed, I write this book especially bearing in mind these people.

If you have the misfortune of suffering from cancer, I would like to pass this message. Do not despair. Do not give up hope. Fight on. While there is no promise or guarantee that taking herbs can cure you entirely of your ailment, it has worked positively on many and they have outlived their doctors’ doomsday prediction! Their quality of life has improved; they have suffered less. For some, the pain simply disappeared within days after taking the herbs.

I am also aware that some readers may treat this book with scorn and criticise me. I offer no apology to these sceptics. Those who followed our advice were helped – their pain lessened if not disappeared completely. Unbelievable though this may be, I wish to state that this is not a miracle; neither is it a fluke. I told those who saw us,  The decision to die or not is the prerogative of our Creator.  He gave us the wisdom to help you. Glorify Him! In this same spirit of gratitude and thanksgiving, my wife and I spent long hours with those who came for help. Our message is contained in this book.

One day, I received a phone call. A lady on the other end of the line asked, how much would you charge if I come and consult you? I remembered smiling broadly into the telephone and replying, if I can be of help to you, come and see me. It’s free. We do this with faith, trusting God to help and guide you. For it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Come join us in singing this beautiful song:

O Master, let me walk with Thee In lowly paths of service free, Tell me Thy secret,

Help me bear the strain of toil, the fret of care.

Chapter 2

Cancer Strikes

Sally was told by the doctor that part of her mother’s lung was seriously infected with cancer. She was doomed. The natural reaction of anyone is to ask, how serious is it, and how much time has her mother left? Is there a cure? The doctor gave Sally a blunt answer. No hope! No cure! There is nothing she could do. Just go home and prepare for her death.

Sally sat down on the bench outside the waiting room. She cried and cried. She was lost.

Vijay had a similar problem. One lobe of his lungs had been cut away and the surgeon referred him to the Cancer Hospital for further treatment. The attending doctor told him that his was a hopeless case.

Madam Kiew stayed in a six-bedded ward at a private hospital. She had just had a part of her cancerous breast removed. A nurse stood by her bed and said, you must realize that you are suffering from cancer.  This is a serious disease.  You have no chance at all.  You will die soon.  Madam Kiew was devastated and confused. The total expenses for the five days in hospital inclusive of the nurse’s short lecture, had amounted to RM4,500.

Ben had a sudden sharp pain in the abdomen. Later this was diagnosed as a serious case of liver cancer. The doctor advised him to get his papers ready for he had two months to clock out. Perhaps his daughter overseas should come home too. He just broke down and cried.

Madam Teoh suffered from breast cancer some 15 years ago. She had the infected breast removed. Unfortunately, in early 1994, the cancer returned.

Her hip bone and the spine had cancerous growths. Since then she had been confined to bed. She was in pain day and night and the pain was aggravated by even the slightest movements, causing her to scream. There was no hope for her. She was left to die.

Johnny, being a privileged person, had the opportunity to travel to a neighbouring country for treatment. He had a part of cancer-infected rectum removed. The surgeon told him that the surgery was cleanly done and there was nothing left behind to worry about. There was no need for any follow-up treatment. Six months later, Johnny was back in the hospital and this time the cancer had spread to his liver. He underwent chemotherapy but the first treatment did not show any positive effect. The doctor wanted to increase the dosage of the drug used on him. What was going to happen now? Johnny was at a loss.

Jane faced a similar but very unfortunate problem. Her doctor wanted to try out a new chemotherapy drug to treat her infected bladder. She did well for the first two months of treatment. The doctor was satisfied and decided to increase the dosage as she was responding very well. Perhaps this was because she was also taking herbs which the doctor was not aware of. Unfortunately, during the third month, her condition deteriorated. One of her kidneys appeared to have been destroyed by the chemotherapy.  She was asked to go home, to seek supportive treatment elsewhere. In short, she was abandoned!

Daisy had stomach cancer. The doctor removed her entire stomach and joined the esophagus to the intestine. Her carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) counts were misleadingly low or normal but years after this operation, cancer was again detected in the ovary. This time, the surgeon removed her entire uterus. She was constantly having cramps in her abdomen. There was no knowing if yet another organ would come under the surgeon’s knife. Frustrating indeed.

Danny, twenty-two years old, was a university student. The wall of his chest was cancerous and one side of the lung was removed together with the cancerous chest wall tissue. After a year, the tumour came back and the doctor gave him a 40 percent chance of survival. Hearing such bad news really devastated the hopes of this young man. How could life be that cruel?

At 2.30 a.m. one early morning our phone rang. This was a call from

England. Richard called for help. He had cancer on his chest wall four years ago. He had an operation to remove the tumour and together with that, four of his ribs were also removed. Unfortunately, the cancer returned and he had intermittent, intense, stinging pain in the armpits and shoulders. Richard underwent both radiotherapy and chemotherapy but now there was no hope. His doctor sent him home with only pain killers because the bone marrow and the kidneys had been affected by the poisonous drugs used on him previously.

This is an e-mail I received from the United States.

Dear Dr. Teo,

I came upon your website through an e-mail that was forwarded to me to help me find help for my daughter.

My daughter June (not real name) is 25 years old. She has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. In the beginning she underwent treatment following the “Linker protocol” (named after Dr. Linker who works at this hospital) by the doctors at the University of California at San Francisco teaching hospital.

She did well for a while, but suffered a relapse. She had severe pain in her leg, which they determined was due to the damage at the top of her femur bone, caused by the prednisone that she had to take during her protocol.

She underwent surgery on her leg and they discovered a growth on her leg caused by the leukemia. They stopped the Linker protocol and told her that she needed a bone marrow Transplant (BMT).

To prepare her for BMT, she was given nine sessions of wholebody radiation. She underwent the BMT procedure and received the bone marrow from her sister. After 100 days, the doctors said it had 99 percent successfully grafted. However, a bone marrow biopsy indicated that the leukemia was still there.

Later, the doctors found that the leukemia had entered her blood, although there were not much blast cells. All that they can offer her now is a possible DLI (Donor Lymphocyte Infusion), which requires four weeks of intense chemotherapy, with the possibility of developing severe graft versus host disease, and even then, the chance of success is very slim, according to the doctors. Another option is to have just low doses of chemotherapy here and there and get the DLI. The chances of it being successful are even smaller than the first option.

The doctors are not giving her much time. But as long as she has the blasts in her blood, she cannot get the DLI anyway. In the next two to three months she will have to make a decision whether she wants to go ahead with the DLI (either option 1 or 2), or will just be at home trying her own thing.

She is neutropenic now. Her immune system is practically gone. She is now at home and has to visit the clinic a few times a week to get platelets and blood. She has severe pain in the right leg that was operated on earlier. She can barely lift her left arm. She is on a lot of pain medication and is in a desperate state of mind as we all are also.

Please help her. She is only 25 and still has so much to offer to her fellow human beings. We pray to God every day for a miracle to happen … We will not give up hope yet, and pray to God that you may be the answer to our prayers.

A few days later, I received another e-mail.

June is at our house today, and she mentioned the fact that pretty soon she would not be getting platelets or blood from the clinic anymore, because her body will not respond to those transfusions anymore. She has been getting transfusions almost every other day, so the transfusion will not be affective anymore according to the nurse practitioner. We are just wondering if she will be able to manage once she has no more transfusions of blood and platelets; only with the herbs. We worry what can happen if she bleeds. Her blood would not be able to clot and she will bleed to death. Please let us know what to do before this happens. Also, if you have special herbs that can help sustain her once she reaches this stage. Please send them to us.

Hope to hear from you soon.

The above accounts are not fictitious. They are true.  Frustration, disappointment and hopelessness are mild words to describe these situations.

There are a few lessons we can learn from the above accounts.

1.   The negative psychological impact on these cancer patients is tremendous.

The fact that one is going to die any time without a chance of medical help imposes devastating strain and stress on the person. The fear of having to lose dear loved ones can drive one to desperation. A lady with breast cancer told us, Oh, no. I have a seven-year old daughter to take care.

2.   The explicit helplessness expressed by the doctors implies the state of void in modern medicine towards helping serious cancer cases. The patients are sent home with pain killers and are expected to die in grace. The favourite advice seems to be, Go home... get your affairs in order and prepare to die. You only have one, two or six months to live.

3.   Arising from the above, it appears that there is a need for alternative medicine. Reading through various literature, I have come to understand that seeking alternative medicine is indeed the only option left for these helpless patients. In the book, Battle Plan for Cancer, written by Anne and David Frahm, Anne related how she underwent all medical treatments on cancer: surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and bone marrow transplant, but still she was not cured. She was left to die. Not wanting to give up, she went through the non-medicinal way of healing herself and within six weeks felt well and later was cancer-free. We recommend this book for your reading.

4.   Most of the people who come to see us are not first-case cancer patients. Many had cancer a few years before, were operated on and had the affected tissues removed. One lesson to learn from their experiences is: do not be complacent.  The cancer story does not end after an operation. You need to take care because some years later the cancer may strike again. For example, from the colon, the cancer generally spreads to the liver and later the lungs (?). Or, if you have breast cancer, it can later spread to the bones, etc.

Chapter 5

The Winners

Lame ducks do not win a war, or any war for that matter. It is the brave and the committed who win. There is an old Roman saying:

The crowd, the world

And sometimes even the grave, Step aside for the man,

Who knows where he’s going,

But pushes the aimless drifter aside.

When the doctor tells you that you have cancer, you have only two choices:

to die like he says, or to resist. No - I am going to fight back!

We have read the many accounts of people fighting and winning this cancer war. These people possess one common characteristic. They all have fighting spirits. They never give up. And they won the war. The fight against cancer is never easy but as the old Roman saying goes, even the grave will step aside to make way for you if that is the way you want to go!

We have set our goal in trying to help those who come to see us. We admit that often we sit back and stare at a blank wall. Negative ideas run through our heads. We ask ourselves, what are we trying to do? Are we wasting our time? We are not medical doctors; it is not our business to talk and help cancer patients! During such negative moments we feel like giving up too! But then, phone calls keep coming from people who inform us that they feel better and have been helped by our advice. This is most encouraging. We are helpful after all, in some ways. So, with God’s guidance let this work go on. We have set aside every morning (Monday-Friday) to let the sick and the healthy come together, to meet, to talk and to share experiences. In this way, we can draw encouragement as well as learn from each other.
