Even if you don't know mythology well, you probably know the myth of the phoenx, the magical bird who never died, but instead passed through an intense fire to be reborn. It has moved into general use as a metaphor for rebirth and regeneration.

Well, what if the phoenix were real, and when the time came for it to pass through a funeral pyre and restart its life, it was stuck in small town America, with only a small boy and a big dog for help?

That's the situation for this tale, which has the sensibility of a Golden Age science fiction story.

I'm trying an approach titled "Pay What You Want," because I trust my work. I know my stories are good. I also trust people to recognize that quality and pay what they think the story is worth. Also, I know how hard it is to judge new writers, so I want to make it easy for people to try my work.
