Texas has a rich and complex history.
Every year, Bethune & Son holds a short story contest focusing on the history of south Texas.
I wrote "The View From the Texas Star Flyer" for the 2020 contest. It won an honorable mention.
This short story focuses on the history of Galveston. The history here is wild, mythic, and almost exotic. In this story, Galveston's past collides with its present and looming future, in the bodies of a grandmother, who lived through a good chunk of this history, and her grandson, who serves on the city council.
You'll notice that there is no minimum price set for this story.
I'm trying an approach titled "Pay What You Want," because I trust my work. I know my stories are good. I also trust people to recognize that quality and pay what they think the story is worth. Also, I know how hard it is to judge new writers, so I want to make it easy for people to try my work.
