Jacques Offenbach: „Duo Nr. 1 G-Dur Opus 50“

Das Duo erklingt in der Besetzung für Violoncello und Kontrabass transparenter als sein Original für zwei Celli, da durch die verschiedenen Klangfarben von Cello und Kontrabass die Einzelstimmen klarer voneinander zu unterscheiden sind. Dabei spielt der Kontrabass die zweite Stimme fast durchweg klingend, d. h., seine Stimme ist eine Oktave höher notiert als das Original und dadurch auch recht anspruchsvoll für den Kontrabassisten, da so gut wie immer in Daumenlage zu spielen ist.

The duo sounds more transparent in the scoring for cello and double bass than its original for two cellos, as the different timbres of the cello and double bass make it easier to distinguish the individual parts from one another. At the same time, the double bass plays the second part almost consistently sounding, i.e. its part is notated an octave higher than the original and therefore also quite demanding for the double bass player, as it almost always has to be played in the thumb position.
