About This Pattern

Unlike a traditional soft rag doll, this design uses a structured slim body and articulated limbs to create a much wider range of poses.

The pattern includes two construction options:

Jointed Version – uses small wooden beads inside the joints for greater articulation and poseability.

Simplified Version – can be made without wooden joint beads for makers who prefer a simpler construction method.

The finished doll has a blank, featureless face, giving you complete freedom to customize it into your own character. Add embroidery, painted features, wigs, clothing, accessories, fantasy details, or gothic styling to create a completely unique doll.

What You’ll Learn

Recommended Fabrics

Use a non-stretch or low-stretch woven fabric with enough structure to hold the doll’s shape.

Recommended options include:

Cotton-linen blend, lightweight canvas, tightly woven cotton, or similar doll-making fabric.

Approximately 40 × 40 cm / 15.7 × 15.7 in of fabric is recommended.

Skin-tone fabric can be used for a classic doll base, or experiment with black, gray, white, pastel, or fantasy-colored fabrics for gothic and character dolls.

Materials & Supplies

You will need fabric, polyester fiberfill, matching sewing thread, hand-sewing needle, scissors, fabric glue or alcohol-based craft glue, a turning or stuffing tool, and approximately 1.5 mm aluminum or iron wire where required by your chosen construction method.

For the articulated version, wooden beads are used at the joints:

Knees: approximately 1.5 cm diameter

Elbows: approximately 1 cm diameter

Wrists: approximately 0.7–0.8 cm diameter
