IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWNLOADING

This is a 2.3 GB zipped file, so it will take some time to download. Once it's on your computer, here's what to do next:

1. Unzip the download.

  • If you’re a Mac OS user, double-click on the zipped file.
  • If you’re a Windows user, the regular Windows utility will not work on such a large file. A fellow On Pasture reader found that downloading and using 7-Zip was necessary to decompress the file. You can download it here.

2. Open "READ ME FIRST.PDF" for further instructions.

3. To start reading, open the file titled "Open Onpasture.html."

  • The file will open in your regular browser. It will look like you’re online, but you aren’t. You can read everything, just like you did when On Pasture was online.

**DO NOT OPEN THE FOLDER NAMED ONPASTURE RESOURCE**

The folder contains everything that makes the library work and if you open it and mess with the files inside, it won’t work anymore.

About the Downloadable Library

Since March of 2013, On Pasture has published the equivalent of a grazing self-help book every 3 months. I wrote about half of the seven weekly articles, with great contributions from researchers, agency staff, and graziers. We all had the same goal: to make life better for our fellow graziers by translating science and experience into practices to improve sustainability and profitability.

This download includes all the articles in the library (a little over 2,000 after cleanup), instructions on using the download, and a new search page so you can find articles about topics that interest you most. It will look and function like the online site did, but it will be running from your computer.

It’s not perfect. There are programming bugs that come along with changes made to the site over a decade, and some of those just can’t be fixed. So the final product has a few glitches, and some photos don't show up. Fortunately, there are workarounds, and I’ve included those in the instructions that come with the download.
