Chapel on Monday
By Kimani Upshur, M.Ed.
You go to a Christian school. You wear the blazer, sit through chapel on Monday, know the answers in Bible class — and you still feel far from God, while everybody around you assumes your faith is fine because of your uniform. Chapel on Monday tells the truth about that gap: the performance, the boredom, the doubt you're not allowed to say out loud, the prayers that feel like they hit the ceiling, and the weight of the tuition somebody sacrificed to put you in that pew. Then it walks you, one honest step at a time, toward a faith that is actually yours — not borrowed from your parents, not performed for the room, but chosen, tested, and lived on ordinary Thursdays as well as chapel Mondays. Honest, plain, and on your side — because feeling far from God in the place built to bring you close to Him is not the end of your faith. It might be the beginning of it.
