Interviews 101

This class teaches students the essential skills to succeed in job interviews. From preparation and presentation to common questions and follow-ups, students will walk away with the tools and confidence to ace their first interview.

What Is an Interview?


Explain the purpose of a job interview and what employers are typically looking for.

Touch on different interview formats: in-person, phone, virtual.


Preparing for the Interview


Teach students how to research the company, understand a job description, and reflect on their own strengths, interests, and goals.


Common Interview Questions

Help students break down classic questions like:


“Tell me about yourself.”


“Why should we hire you?”


“What are your strengths/weaknesses?”


“Tell me about a time you solved a problem.”

Introduce the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure answers.

Body Language & Communication Skills

Discuss nonverbal cues like eye contact, posture, handshakes (or virtual presence).

Talk about tone, speaking clearly, and avoiding filler words.
