April Directed Drawings Writing Prompts Write and Draws Spring Writing Activity
This April Write and Draw resource pairs a step-by-step directed drawing with paragraph writing practice for Grades 2 to 5. On each page, students follow a directed drawing to create an April illustration, then write a paragraph inspired by their artwork.
Drawing first gives students something visual and personal to describe, explain or imagine, so they are not starting from a blank page. The drawings cover rainy day, spring, Easter, Earth Day, insect and animal themes: umbrella, rain boot, rain cloud, rain drop, Easter egg, bunny, rabbit, cherry blossom, tulip, Earth, daisy, frog, chick, tadpole, seedling, dandelion, rainbow, ladybug, bee, butterfly, basket, duck, fishing rod, bunny and chick hatching.

HOW TO USE IT
Use the pages for paragraph writing practice, morning work, writing centers, early finishers, sub plans, Earth Day or Easter writing, or homeschool learning. Print single pages as you need them, or turn the set into an April write and draw booklet that students work through over time.
Because the writing comes from their own artwork, students have a stronger sense of ownership and can add details, describe a setting or imagine a character. It suits reluctant writers, visual learners and students who benefit from a drawing prompt before writing.
FAQ
Who is this for?
Classroom teachers, homeschool educators, substitute teachers and art teachers working with Grades 2 to 5.
What kind of writing does it support?
Paragraph writing. Students complete a directed drawing and then write a paragraph inspired by their artwork.
How long does each page take?
It depends on the student, your writing expectations and how much detail they add. One page may fit in one class or writing block, while detailed drawings and polished paragraphs may take longer.
Is it editable?
No. It is a non-editable PDF.
Do students need to be strong artists?
No. The drawing steps help every student feel successful, and they can add their own creative details before writing.
