The History of the Card Magic plot Reset:

The Origins of the plot Reset are from the old card plot; transposition - The Omnipotence of the Ladies by Hofzinser in his book Hofzinser's Card Conjuring. (translated from the original book written in German in 1910 by the magician Ottokar Fischer (b.1873 - d.1940) who was an Austrian magician.

In 1895 Ottokar Fischer met George Heubeck, who was one of the pupils of J. N. Hofzinser. Heubeck taught Fischer all of Hofzinser's effects he knew.

S.H. Sharpe then translated the book into English:

Hofzinser's Card Conjuring - 1st edition, (1931) translated by Samuel H. Sharpe, published by George Johnson, London.

Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser (19 June 1806 – 11 March 1875) was an Austrian-Hungarian magician and illusionist. He used the moniker "Dr. Hofzinser" as a stage name after 1865.

He performed Magic in many countries:

In the years 1865-1874 many performances by him could be found by studying local newspaper articles in Graz, Marburg, Laibach, Preßburg, Budapest, Vienna, Krakau, Troppau, Linz, Salzburg (theses were known), St. Pölten (the poster is known already), further in Münich, Wels, Gmunden, Steyr, Bad Ischl, Krems, Korneuburg, Berlin, Lemberg, Czernowitz, Wiener Neustadt, Znaim, Pilsen, Eger, Karlsbad, Marienbad, Franzensbad, Brünn, Breslau and Triest.

HOFZINSER travelled also to the south to Slovenia and Croatia several times.

The last performance of HOFZINSER is registered in the Viennese news papers close to the new years eve of 1874/1875 when he performed for the Vienna Club of trade people.
