Finding the Names — Installment 76 continues Roll 9 of the New Orleans inward slave manifests (National Archives Microfilm Publication M1895, Roll 9, NAID 173909088), images 481–600: 928 more entries (918 named, 10 unnamed) on 62 documents, transcribed name by name from the original records. Most are from the early months of 1843, with strays the filming kept: a manifest of December 1842, a landing order of May 1840, and one filing dated October 1844.

Inside: the barque Bachelor's 162 people in a single Norfolk filing — Charles, who ran away before the vessel left, and Mary Ann Diggs, 11, "not sent on Board" sick, with a Mary Ann Diggs standing on the brig Orleans three weeks later; the papers do not say if she is the same girl, and both entries stand. The Orleans's own 152 names in three manifests, her examiner finding 151 — Ben Murry, 8, never came aboard. Austen and Cicero, a consul's servants brought home from Galveston on a sworn affidavit. Denis, landed from Havana under a special order. And David S. Terry shipping from Galveston with his residence entered as "California" — in 1843.
