Love Hearts Socks

Wear your heart on your sleeve,.. uh socks! These socks are filled with love with a band of hearts at the top of the leg and a heart shaped toe and heel. Knit them for yourself (because self love is important!) or as a gift for a loved one. This pattern is perfect for those new to colourwork as the stranded section is only a few rounds on the leg and a few rounds before the toe. The heart shaped heel is created by

duplicate stitching.

This pattern is worked in the round from the cuff down. The socks feature an afterthought heel which can be made to look like a heart through duplicate stitching. On the leg there is a band of stranded hearts. The toe is also made to look like a heart through stranded knitting.

Sizing 

Size small (medium, large) with a cast on of 56 (64, 72) stitches and a finished circumference of 6.25” (7, 8)” (16 (18, 20) cm). The foot can be knit to any length. The socks are intended to be worn with 0.5-1” (1- 3 cm) negative ease for the best fit, but please keep in mind that the stranded heart section has less stretch than the rest of the socks.

Gauge 

36 stitches and 44 rows per 4” (10 cm) in stockinette on smaller needles.

Materials

• 300 meters (328 yards) fingering weight yarn (MC).
• 125 meters (137 yards) fingering weight yarn (CC).
• 2.5 mm (US 1.5) double pointed or circular needles.
• Optional: 2.75 mm (US 2) double pointed or circular needles (for stranded colourwork).
• Tapestry needle.
• Fingering weight waste yarn.

Sample 

Sample was knit using Lang Yarns Jawoll Superwash in “83.0109 (pink) as MC and in 83.0060 (red) as CC (75% virgin wool/25% nylon; 50 grams/210 meters (230 yards)). Sample is a size medium with a 9.25” (23.5 cm) foot and used 47 grams of MC (198 meters (217 yards), 22 grams of CC (92 meters (101 yards)).
