Bixafen Patent Landscape Analysis

Developed by Bayer and established through its Xpro® fungicide platform, bixafen is a Group 7 SDHI fungicide designed to protect cereals and other major crops against economically important fungal diseases. Its systemic activity and role in high-performance mixtures with fungicides such as prothioconazole have made it an important component of modern cereal disease-management programmes. The report retains 191 patent families across 73 consolidated owner groups. Combination development is the largest and most competitive layer, comprising 115 families. The upstream estate includes 54 families across compound and process and intermediates, of which 24 have a grant or national pending reading; only three single-active formulation families are retained.

A total of 86 families have a grant or national pending reading, while 27 live families reach their nominal term within five years—highlighting both the continuing density of protection and the approaching opportunities created by portfolio expiry.
