Multiplying Scientific Notation Partner Activity | Matching Practice
Give students a partner-based way to practice multiplying numbers in scientific notation with this Multiplying Scientific Notation Partner Activity. Students work through scientific notation multiplication problems, then compare matching answers with a partner to check their work.
This activity includes 20 total problems split into two sets. Each partner completes a set of 10 problems independently, but the answers are designed to match across the sets. For example, problem #1 matches problem #11, problem #2 matches problem #12, and so on.
Two suggested options are included. Students can work with a partner, solve their assigned set, and then compare matching answers. They can also switch sets for additional practice. Another option is to have students complete all 20 problems individually, working through one set at a time.
The problems include practice with positive and negative exponents, multiplying coefficients, and moving the decimal point left or right to write answers correctly in scientific notation.
