Dathlu Bunting Crochet Pattern & Tutorial (PDF Download)

Bring a little rainbow magic to your crochet projects with the Dathlu Bunting.

(Dathlu means “celebrate blossom” in Welsh 🌈).

This is both a detailed crochet pattern and a step-by-step tutorial, designed so everyone can follow along. You’ll find two separate versions to choose from, one for right-handed crocheters and one for left-handed crocheters, so you can pick the version that suits you best.

What’s included:

  • Full PDF pattern and photo tutorial for every stage
  • Supporting videos for some stitches
  • Long-form instructions written in full stitch terminology
  • Short-form instructions
  • Instructions covering bunting construction.
  • Notes on tension, hook size, yarn type, and sizing
  • Perfect for stash-busting: use up leftover yarns to make a colourful, playful bunting.

Yarn & Materials:

  • Yarn: I used Stylecraft Aran – you can use any similar Aran or Worsted weight yarn.
  • Hook size: Recommended 5 millimetres for Stylecraft Aran. I used a 4 millimetre hook for a denser fabric.
  • Colours: The sample bunting shown used 6 different colours! This project is a fantastic stash-buster. The flower can be a bit yarn-hungry, so mix and match however you like and have fun experimenting with colour combinations.

Skill Level:

Suitable for confident beginners and intermediate makers. This pattern is designed so that everyone can follow along and succeed.

Why you’ll love this pattern:

  • Create a playful, textured bunting full of colour and charm
  • Customise with your favourite yarns
  • Makes a beautiful, handmade gift or a treat for yourself
  • Inclusive design: As a left-handed crocheter and visual learner, I’ve made this pattern easy to follow for all makers, with clear photos and supporting videos

Quick Reference:

A shorter written version is included at the end for fast, easy checking while you work, complete with an abbreviation section for shorthand users.

Amazing pattern

So easy to follow. Lots of fun to make and I learnt two new straight forward stitches (extended single stich, braided stitch) which are easily explained. Fab, thank you 🥰

It’s happening!

I’m greener than the spring grass when it comes to crochet. I’ve been taking lessons for a few months now and I can do this pattern! It’s finally happening! The shape and design are coming together and it’s easy to follow and understand! I’m thrilled and can’t wait to make a lot colorful joy from this pattern!
