Na Ceithir Dùil

Meaning “the four elements” in Scottish Gaelic, Na Ceithir Dùil is a simple but fun fingerless mitts pattern. It uses tiny leftovers for stripes with slipped stitches to create a gorgeous pattern on the back of each hand. This fingerless mitts pattern is a really quick and fun make!

The pattern is fully written instructions, with charts for the slipped stitch pattern and also includes a photo tutorial for the Estonian Cast-On and for cables without a cable needle. The pattern has been tech edited and test knitted. There’s a screenshot of the pattern, and a list of the stitches used at the bottom of the photos. These additional techniques are used: picking up stitches.

Materials

• 135 (145, 165, 185)(200, 220) m (145 (160, 180, 200)(220, 240) yds) of Eden Cottage Yarns Hayton 4 ply (80% Merino, 10% Nylon, 10% Cashmere, 380 yds/100g) in Whispering Grass
• 9 m (10 yds) of Eden Cottage Yarns Hayton 4 ply in Lagoon, Red Goosefoot and Ivy
• 2.5 mm (US 1.5) circular needles, 80 cm (32”) or longer or DPNs
• 5 stitch markers (per mitt)
• Yarn needle for sewing in ends

Gauge

32 stitches and 44 rows in 10 cm (4”) in stocking stitch in the round.

Finished Size

XS (S, M1, M2, L, XL) - 15 (16.5, 17.5, 19, 20, 21.5) cm / 6 (6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5) inches

The mitts are designed to be worn with up to 2.5 - 5 cm (1 - 2”) of negative ease.
