This photograph was captured during a brief break in rain and mist on Nine Standards Rigg. For much of the day the summit lay hidden beneath low cloud, before the weather suddenly relented and the cairns emerged from the gloom for a few precious moments. The resulting image captures the wild, atmospheric character of this exposed moorland landscape and the sense of discovery experienced by countless walkers reaching the summit.
