Lucknow: The Union government may take a major decision before the Assembly elections in five states next year. According to information received, the government may start considering bringing petrol-diesel , natural gas and aviation turbine fuel under GST under the 'One Country-One Price' scheme . It is likely to be discussed at a meeting of the GST Council in Lucknow on September 17 .
The 45th meeting of the GST Council will be chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman . Meanwhile, the group of ministers may discuss the ' One Nation One Price ' proposal. The meeting is likely to discuss bringing one or more petroleum products under GST.
If the GST Council approves the group's proposal, petrol and diesel prices will be the same in all the states of the country. Not only that, due to uniform GST, petrol and diesel prices will also come down drastically. However, sources claimed that top officials of the GST Council were not ready to impose uniform GST on petroleum products. In the financial year 2019-20, the state and central governments received revenue of Rs 5.55 lakh crore from petroleum products.
At the meeting, coronavirus treatment equipment and medicines may also be exempt from tax. At the same time, Aadhaar could be made mandatory for more than 80 lakh firms. In addition, the GST Council will consider the report of the Group of Ministers (GoM) to allow special cess on pharma and electricity in Sikkim .
