During medieval times, doctors wore beaked masks to protect them and placed herbs in the nose cone to cover the smell of death. Alternate black and white yarn to make a wavy pattern on the beak of this plague mask. You'll definitely win for the most unique costume this Halloween! Crochet pattern uses I Love This Cotton worsted weight yarn, 3 buttons, size G or H crochet hook and plastic yarn needle. The mask covers the entire face with two holes for the eyes and a beaked nose (with enough room to insert a filter if desired). Two straps are crocheted on the sides of the mask and button in the back.

Masks made according to this pattern are not medical grade masks and are not FDA approved. They are intended to be used as part of a Halloween costume or for a costume party.
