I am the grandson of Bishop George Dallas McKinney — COGIC general board member and founder of St. Stephen’s COGIC in San Diego. I am the son of Glenn McKinney Sr. — multi-platinum guitarist and songwriter whose credits include Brandy, Tevin Campbell and Ray J. I grew up between two cities, two worlds and two very different ideas about what faith, family and freedom are supposed to look like.

This is not an attack on the church. This is an honest account of what I saw — the politics, the performance, the people who were real and the ones who weren’t. The KKK Grand Wizard who got a standing ovation. The faith healer who took everything and left my grandmother dead. The woman who married my grandfather, built a secret board while he lay bedridden and walked away with a legacy that wasn’t hers to take.
