2026 Banned Book -- Roses Shawlette
2026 Banned Books Week Celebrates Flowers!
Books about, including, or referencing, flowers have been banned and/or challenged around the world. Even if surrounding yourself with flowers makes you sneeze, you have probably heard of one or more of these banned/challenged books. Here are a few of them:
The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
The Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas
This year’s Banned Book Week project celebrates flowers with a shawlette that has no purl stitches in the pattern and plenty of beads for those who like extra bling in their accessories.
You will need slightly less than 800 yards of fingering weight yarn. This design can be worked with or without beads. The lace pattern looks great either way.
Prefer a slightly smaller variation for a scarf? The scarf version, Sweet Rose of Shetland, is available for this year’s Banned Books Week.
For my shawlette, I chose Miss Babs Tarte in the sumptuous Dark Andromeda colorway.
