The Long Echo: A Walk Through the Miscellaneous Chapters of Zhuangzi

The third volume in the series, walking through the eleven Miscellaneous Chapters that close the Zhuangzi text. These chapters contain some of the most beloved scenes in the whole tradition: the snail's horn kingdoms, the fish trap and the rabbit snare, the great speech of Robber Zhi, the old fisherman teaching Confucius about authenticity, and the closing scene of Zhuangzi's own death.

The book ends with the great closing essay of the Zhuangzi school, in which the school describes itself from inside, with the same honest precision it has applied to everyone else. The closing image of the school as an inexhaustible spring, pouring quietly, available to whoever comes to drink, is the gift that the whole series has been preparing to deliver.
