This Earth Day Rhino Art Project is a mixed media lesson that helps students explore wildlife conservation through art. Students create a striking rhino portrait using newspaper collage, drawing, wax crayons and watercolor paint, symbolizing the relationship between people, the media and endangered animals.

Students sketch a rhino profile, collage newspaper text inside the rhino shape, add black line details and expressive wrinkles and textures, then design an Earth-themed background. The finished piece sits in a circular composition, often with a heart labeled "Earth Day" surrounded by organic shapes and bright watercolor. It suits elementary and middle school art classes.
