THE ROAD BETWEEN TWO WORLDS
A Work of Historical Fiction Inspired by the Parable of the Good Samaritan — Luke 10:25–37
The Road Between Two Worlds is a work of historical fiction inspired by the Parable of the Good Samaritan found in Luke 10:25–37.
The Bible tells us what happened on the road between Jerusalem and Jericho, but it does not tell us the names of the people involved, their families, their personal histories, or everything they may have experienced before and after that encounter.
This book imagines, through fiction, what their lives might have been like.
Who might the man have been who left Jerusalem? What was he hoping to find when he began his journey? What thoughts might have gone through his mind when he was left wounded beside the road?
Who might the priest and the Levite have been? What experiences may have shaped their lives before that moment?
And who might the Samaritan have been who chose to stop?
Through fictional characters, families, conversations, and circumstances created for this story, the reader is invited to step into the world of that time and imagine what life might have been like in an age marked by differences, prejudice, danger, and deep divisions.
The characters and their personal stories are fictional. The details added to their lives are not found in the biblical account and have been created to present an imagined human experience behind Jesus’ teaching.
At the heart of the story remains the message of the parable:
Mercy is not only something we feel. Mercy is something we demonstrate.
This is a story about compassion, mercy, sacrifice, and the decision to come closer to someone in need, even when differences might tell us to remain apart.
Because perhaps the question is not only:
“Who is my neighbor?”
But also:
“Am I willing to be a neighbor?”
“Go and do likewise.” — Luke 10:37
