Calochortus tolmiei is a beautiful native wildflower to the Pacific Northwest, often called a star lily or a cat ear. Delicate and delightfully strange, they are one of my favorite plants- so much so that I wanted to design a pair of mitts based off of them! And then I figured a pair of mittens too wouldn’t hurt.

  • Uses between 250-275 yards of fingering weight yarn
  • Calls for a US 0 (2.0 mm) needle
  • 9 st / inch (18 st / 5 cm)

This pattern includes instructions and separate charts for both fingerless mitts and full mittens. There are two sizes that are differentiated by gauge- the small has a gauge of 10 st/inch, while the medium/large has a gauge of 9 st/inch.

The stranded colorwork on the front of the mitts/mittens is not very intuitive, and requires long floats that you must catch. Make sure to keep a careful eye on the chart! The back of the mitts/mittens have a lovely little blossom pattern that make for more restful stranded knitting.
