CAVEMAN Vol. 1 — Slam Drum MIDI
Drum MIDI that loops.
I'm a guitarist. Every time I wanted to hear a riff in context I had to go and program drums first, so I wrote Python that does it for me: blast beats, stank grooves, ect. Then I programmed every groove out by hand in code and threw out the ones that didn't hold up. What's left is these 251 files.
WHAT YOU GET
-----------------------
104 one-bar grooves, in blast, full-time and half-time.
96 crash-in versions of those same grooves, with the cymbal on beat 1, for dropping into a section.
35 fills: half-bar, one bar, and two-bar builds.
10 extreme grooves. The stupid ones. On purpose.
1 song starter, six sections that already work together, for when you want a skeleton instead of a loop.
-----------------------
groove index.csv, which lists every single file with its feel, snare, cymbal and bar count, plus a plain description of what it does. You can find the groove you want without opening 251 files to look for it. (Advanced users: drop this to your agents for a extremely fast reference sheet.)
Why it loops: every groove is one bar long and ends where it started. Nothing ramps into bar two, and no cymbal is left hanging over the loop point, so you can repeat it sixteen times and it doesn't fall over. Every one is playable too. Two hands and two feet, which sounds obvious until you try to play most MIDI packs.
Programmed drums is usually a sly dig. Mine are programmed twice over, because there are real Python files behind this pack and I wrote the rules they follow. They still don't sound like a machine. Velocities move the way a drummer's hands do, and about 84% of the hits sit slightly off the grid instead of welded to it. Nothing is louder than 122, so your sampler still has somewhere to go.
COMPATIBILITY
-----------------------
General MIDI: drag it into Steven Slate Drums 5, EZdrummer, Superior Drummer 3, GetGood Drums or Addictive Drums. Anything that reads a GM map will play it. It's written at 140 BPM, and MIDI doesn't care about tempo, so it works from roughly 120 to 160 without editing a note.
This is MIDI only. There's no audio or samples in it, and you'll need your own drum plugin to hear anything.
Steven Slate Drums, EZdrummer, Superior Drummer, GetGood Drums and Addictive Drums are trademarks of their respective owners. CAVEMAN Vol. 1 is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them. It is General MIDI, which is why it works with all of them.
