Crayon Play shawl knitting pattern

Crayon Play is a shawl designed for variegated yarns that benefit from the presence of another solid or semisolid yarn that tones down their color explosion. The shawl is started from the center and worked outwards.

Approximate sizes after blocking:
S: 150 cm wide and 38 cm deep.
M: 170 cm wide and 48 cm deep.
L: 200 cm wide and 58 cm deep.

Yardage:
Size S: 150 g (526 m/575 yd) of solid or semisolid color, 90 g (316 m/345 yd) of variegated yarn.
Size M: 200 g (702 m/768 yd) of solid or semisolid color, 100 g (351 m/384 yd) of variegated yarn.
Size L: 290 g (1017 m/1112 yd) of solid or semisolid color, 150 g (526 m/575 yd) of variegated yarn.

Needle size: 3.5 mm (US 4) or any to get the gauge, a circular needle at least 100 cm (40 in) long.
Gauge: 24 sts and 34 rows per 10 cm unblocked, 20 sts and 35 rows per 10 cm blocked, but gauge is not crucial. However please note that a different gauge will lead to different yarn usage.
