There’s something so cheery about a bright shorty sock. I love wearing them around the house, seeing them peep out of sneakers or, my personal favorite (controversial opinion incoming), paired with Birkenstock sandals!
The Shorty Shorty Shorties are my perfect footy sock, a simple pattern with lots of opportunities to play with color, an option for a ribbed or i-cord cuff, and, best of all, a no slip cuff! Knit from the cuff down, these are also a great crash course in working with German short rows — they’re used to shape the cuff, heel and toe. (Alternative wedge toe instructions are also included.) The result is a slim, low fitting sock that won’t get underfoot while you’re out on summer adventures!
**Sizes**
1 (2, 3, 4, 5) for finished sizes of approx. 6.25 (7, 8, 8.75, 9, 9.75)” [16 (18, 20, 22.5, 25) cm]. Sock length is fully adjustable within pattern.
Choose a finished circumference that is 0-2” (0-5 cm) smaller than your foot size, depending on how snug a fit you like in your handknit socks.
**Yarn**
4ply/fingering weight yarn suitable for socks
This pattern is a great chance to use up partial balls and scraps of sock yarn! The two samples, knit in Sizes 2 and 3, used 40-45 g of main color (MC) with less than 5 grams of contrast. Have fun playing with contrasting heels, toes or even stripes to make the most of favorite sock yarn leftovers!
Sample 1 (Blue/Teal Multicolor) knit in Opal Hundertwasser 4-ply [75% Wool, 25% Nylon, 465 yds (425 m)/100 gram ball) in shade 2106; contrast i-cord cuff in scrap dark grey sock yarn.
Sample 2 (Yellow with Fuchsia Cuff) knit in Retrosaria Mondim [100% non-superwash wool, 421 yds (385 m)/100 gram ball] in shade 211; contrast cuff in The Uncommon Thread Everyday [100% merino, 440 yds (402 m)/100 gram ball) in Peony
