Finding the Names — Installment 85 (Roll 11, 1845–1846) — FREE

Installment 85 of Finding the Names opens Roll 11 — New Orleans Inward Manifests, 1846–1847 (National Archives Microfilm Publication M1895, Roll 11, NAID 173892418), images 1–120: 689 people on 55 documents, transcribed name by name from the original records at the National Archives. The project now stands at 55,140 entries.

Inside: on 17 December 1845 the brig Victorine loaded 97 people at Baltimore under three manifests, and her boarding officer at New Orleans found 95. The barque Bachelor's Petersburg permission counts "Seventy Six" against 75 accounted for — printed one short, as found — and her Richmond list enters Elvira Clarke, 17, in full while its own certificate says she "is not shipped." Texas, newly a state, filed its Galveston shipments as sworn affidavits on New Orleans forms, three of them carrying whole named lists with no tables: the Capers six, fraudulently taken into Texas fifteen years before and shipped home for a dead man's heirs; Neblett's 46, "on their way home"; Purnell's eleven, counting Mitty's child. And Cato got away — the brig Chapman's permit counted eleven, and ten landed.
