A class track meet is one of the best days of the year when every student has events they can do well. How do you build guided running, seated throws, and short distances right next to the standard events so nobody is just watching? This unit has 7 lessons for running, jumping, and throwing at Levels A, B, and C, an event menu, and everything you need to run a class meet. For adapted PE teachers, general PE teachers with inclusive classes, and special education teachers who run PE, grades 6 to 12.

• Teacher overview: what Levels A, B, and C mean, how I run the unit, and a 7 day calendar

• Equipment list (standard and modified) and a drawn setup diagram with the throwing sector away from the lanes

• Safety and inclusion notes with a student setup chart

• 7 one page lessons: running form and starts, sprints and guided running, relay passing, standing long jump, throws, distance and pacing, and meet day

• Every lesson has an objective, warm up, cue words, practice, a Level A/B/C table, a skill check, a teacher tip, and a cool down question

• A 4 station track rotation, a skill check rubric, and a class record sheet

• An event menu at three levels and a safety spacing page

• Meet day roles and a results sheet

• Student self rate cards

I teach the events over about a week and a half, run the station rotation as a practice meet, and finish with a class meet where every student enters three events and takes a job during the others. Every lesson, station, rubric, and game page in this unit is new. Nothing is reused from my Adapted PE Lesson Plans, High School PE Lesson Plans, or Adapted PE Fitness Stations. The FREE Adapted PE Modifications Cheat Sheet works well next to it when you need a quick change on the fly.
