The Story behind "Coal Mines" This is more than just a song; it’s a piece of Kentucky history. My father, Boyd Gene Barger (Gene), spent many years working underground in the coal mines. Back in the 1970s, he wrote these lyrics in his head while working in the mines, but the music was never recorded—until now.

With my husband David Combs on vocals, our family has finally brought Dad's 50-year-old lyrics to life to preserve his legacy and tell the story of the mountains.

The Mission: Restoring a Home & Preserving a Legacy In 2022, a devastating flood hit our community in Lost Creek, Kentucky, leaving my parents' home with damage they are still fighting to repair. My parents have spent their lives giving to others, and now we are working to get them back on solid ground.

Proceeds from the release of this song go directly toward restoring their home and preserving the legacy of my father's music.
