Once Upon a Prompt: Fanfiction Prompts for Writers of All Fandoms (Ebook)

Once upon a time, there was a blank page, and a writer staring at it, wondering what would happen if their favourite pair got stuck in a lift.

Once Upon a Prompt is a treasure chest of story ideas for fanfiction writers. It holds 169 prompts across 13 trope-packed chapters: Enemies & Rivals, Forced Proximity & Fake Relationships, Pining & Secret Admirers, Found Family, Hurt/Comfort, Crime & Danger, Workplace, Showbiz & Sports, Campus, Holidays, Retellings, Royals & Rogues, and Magic, Curses & Things That Go Bump.

Every prompt uses placeholder characters, A and B (with the occasional C and D), so you can cast any pairing from any fandom. That means your OTP, your rarepair, or the original characters you haven't named yet. Each prompt has a "Twist it!" idea to send your plot somewhere unexpected.

Download the EPUB instantly and keep it on your phone, tablet or e-reader — ready whenever inspiration (or a plot bunny) strikes. Prefer paper and a lined notes space under each prompt? The paperback is available on Lulu: https://www.lulu.com/shop/sandra-black/once-upon-a-prompt/paperback/product-45eenkm.html

Sandy has run the SwanQueen FF Prompter blog since 2017, and these prompts are her favourites, reworked so writers of every fandom can use them. They're free to use for your own fanfiction or original stories, whether you're working on a one-shot, joining a fic exchange or doing NaNoWriMo.

Pick a prompt. Open a blank doc. Happily ever after is optional.
