Enjoyable Biological Studies

In the field of physiology, we enjoy anatomical data on the bones of the wrist, the hands, and the feet; the cranium and its contents; a description of the function of the kidney; and notes on lipids, amino acids, hyaline cartilage, the cytoskeleton, ribosomes, and the so-called junk DNA.

There is also an explanation of various botanical terms, such as “caryopsis” and “utricle.”

Many microscopic or nearly microscopic animals are treated, such as amoebas, euglenas, paramecia, and foraminifera.

There is a special section on viruses.

All the fungi are treated: Basidiomycetes, Ascomycetes, etc. A special section is also devoted to Bryophytes. Certain roundworms are also treated.

Unusual creatures make an appearance: tardigrades, Halobacterium salinarum, Pyrolobus fumarii, etc.

Also treated are dugongs and manatees, endemic birds of the Philippines, gnathostomulids, ctenophores, priapulids, whistling ducks, five baboon species, cassowaries, etc.

Also presented fairly thorough scientific articles on photosynthesis, including the Calvin cycle and the Hatch and Slack pathway.
