This photograph was captured when I stopped in Badlands National Park during a cross country road trip from Seattle to Washington D.C. I camped on an incredibly windy ridge, where it so windy that setting up my tent was a struggle. It was dark when I arrived, so I couldn't see the view. I made sure to get up early to watch the sunset. In the morning it was still windy and so cold that my hands hurt when I held my camera. I drove to the cliff edge and sat in my car and then got out just as the sun came over the horizon, and then quickly got back in my car after clicked the shutter.
