What the Day Reveals: A field guide to filming without a shot list

I work without a shot list. No plan, no direction, nothing arranged. I arrive somewhere I've never been and let the day decide what it shows me.

That sounds like an absence of method. It isn't. There's a way of moving through a place, a way of knowing what to point at and when to stop, and a way of being around people so the camera stops mattering to them. Most of it took me years to work out and nobody taught me any of it.

Somewhere along the way people started calling it a MuhannadFilms thing, like it's a style you either have or you don't. It isn't. It's a set of decisions, and every one of them can be learned.
