The Grocery Store.

To a child in a traditional classroom setting, a 

trip to the grocery store might just be a boring errand after a long day at

a desk. But for a homeschooled child, the grocery store can become a 

hands-on mathematical laboratory—a space filled with numbers, 

weights, percentages, and real-world economics. When we teach math in

the aisles of a supermarket, we can remove some of the anxiety of the 

blank worksheet. A mistake in a workbook earns a red "X." A mistake 

calculating the grocery budget just means putting a box of cookies back 

on the shelf! Real-world stakes can help math stick. Let's head to the
