Reading Food Labels: Dates, Storage and Nutrition Facts for Life Skills, High School
This reading food labels set gives students practice finding use by, best by, and sell by dates, storage directions, serving size, calories, and the "Contains" line on made up food packages, with questions at two levels.
Why I made this: Students who are starting to cook or pack their own lunch ask the same questions: "Is this still okay?" "Does this go in the fridge?" "How much is one serving?" This set teaches them where to look on the package. It sticks to reading the label, not food rules or diet advice.
What’s included:
• A teacher page
• 10 words to know with pictures
• 3 pages of practice documents: package date and storage labels, a fridge check list with a leftovers label, and two Nutrition Facts panels
• 12 Level A questions with a picture and 3 choices
• The same 12 questions at Level B with written answers
• A real life task: check the dates in a real fridge or pantry
• An answer key that shows where each answer is found
How I use it: We go over the words, then look at real empty packages from home next to the practice documents. Students answer at their level, and the real life task happens in the school kitchen or as homework.

• Reading use by, best by, and sell by dates
