Justin Wrap crochet pattern
⚠️ WARNING: This is not a traditional pattern. There is no gauge. There is no yarn weight requirement. Bring your scraps and your sense of adventure.
This one is for all the granny square lovers out there. The Justin Wrap is all cutesy folksy in the front... but sexy daring in the back. In summer. In the colder months, bring some joyful anti-depressant colour therapy to your wardrobe by wearing the Justin Top back to front, layered with a long-sleeved crew neck top.
This top uses adaptive sizing, and I show you how to adapt it to your preferences, so you have a truly unique one of a kind, made to your size top after all that effort. Because we are working with the granny square, there is really no point giving you a gauge and recommended hook size. Instead, you should choose your hook depending on your chosen yarn and your own crocheting tension. The granny square is like a lego block. Make as many rounds as you need to get the the width you want.
What you need:
This wrap top is designed to help you use up your yarn scraps... but important caveat: there is a chance that in your colour-frenzied granny square fever, you just might end up with even more skeins of yarn. The more skeins and colours, the more kaleidoscopic and fun your top.
We need to make 12 granny squares in all; this can be around 8 to 12 skeins, depending on how large you need to make your granny squares. For the trims and belt, we will need 2 to 3 skeins.
XS/ US 0-2/ EUR30-32: 10 skeins of Group A yarn
S/ US 4-6/ EUR34-36: 10 skeins
M/ US 8-10/ EUR 38-40: 12 skeins
L/ US 12-14/ EUR 42-44: 14 skeins
XL/ US 14-16/ EUR 44-46: 16 skeins
Additionally: Measuring tape, stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors, and a colour wheel if mixing colours makes you nervous. Also, a fitted and preferably minimally/non-stretchy cotton top where the fit around the shoulders, and the shoulder/sleeves seams are good. We will use this top as a reference when deciding length and armhole placement, OR you can just try on your half-finished crochet garment to decide.
Who is this crochet pattern for:
This crochet pattern is suitable even for advanced beginners who want to graduate past beanies and scarves, to tackle their first crochet garment. The granny square is an easy step-up and gives you a sense of tangible progress: as you finish each granny square, you know you are one square closer to finishing your first crochet top.
What this crochet pattern contains:
We all have different bodies and personalities, and if you are going to sit down and make your own clothes, then it better be exactly what you want, and not what the pattern says you should do. I explain how big to make the granny squares in order for this wrap top to fit you nicely. Think of this as a blueprint, not a pattern. But fear not, I am there with diagrams that show you how to lay out the squares, the order in which to sew them together. I give you my tips and hacks, and there is a granny square symbol chart as well.
The pdf is 37 pages because it is formatted to be legible on your mobile phones without zooming in and panning. It is also available in an ebook (.epub) format.
