This easy shawl is ideal for those who have never made a shawl before, or those who are experienced knitters but have a highly coloured yarn that requires a simple pattern to show it off best. The lace section is charted and written.

Materials:
Eden Cottage Yarns, Carlisle Fingering
(100% superwash extrafine merino)
(400m / 436yds per 100g skein)
Colourway Rose Bed – 1 x 100g skein

Needles and Accessories:
4mm (US 6) circular needle, 60-80cm (24-32in) length
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle

Finished measurements:
118cm (42.5in) wingspan x 48cm (18.75in) depth

Gauge:
18 sts and 41 rows in stocking stitch over 10cm x 10cm (4in x 4in) square on 4mm needles after the shawl has been washed and pinned out flat to dry.

This gauge might look a bit odd, but it is because it was stretched horizontally more than downwards, so the stitches have widened.

Whilst gauge for this project is less important than creating a fabric that you are happy with a tighter or looser gauge will affect the finished measurements of the shawl and how much yarn you use.
