It’s that time of year when there’s an overwhelming number of new LEGO sets released, giving us eager fans a fantastic amount of choice. Checking out the designs, seeing where themes are trying different things and spotting unique elements is great fun.

The biggest changes are occurring in LEGO Friends, as the theme has introduced a new cast of characters in a revamped Heartlake City. By the sounds of it, this will allow the ‘everyday life’ theme to offer a more compelling range than ever before. Head of Design Matthew Ashton, Creative Lead Fenella Blaize-Charity and their colleagues explain what went into reimagining the theme, illustrated with concept art and sketch models.

Chances are you found about the new releases online – but back in the day, we used to learn about the new LEGO sets from catalogues that were given away in toy shops. This month we’re reproducing classic catalogue spreads as full-page, high-resolution images to reveal some of the hidden stories that the designers tucked away when they were setting them up.

Senior Designer Mark Stafford discusses the new Black Panther bust, sharing some of the challenges that he faced while designing the carefully crafted model. The Marvel focus continues in the Reviews section, with a look at the massive new Hulkbuster set.

Enjoy the issue and make sure you subscribe ready for next month – it will be our 100th monthly edition and we are celebrating accordingly.
