CFII PTS Study Guide
Welcome. I'm Jonathan Prentice.
I'm a flight instructor (CFI and CFII), a test pilot, and a former paramedic. If you're holding this guide, you already fly instruments. The CFII test asks something different: can you teach it, explain it, demonstrate it, and spot and fix a student's mistakes?
The first three chapters cover the rating, the teaching method, and the rules you work under. After that, every PTS Task is explained: what the PTS is asking and why, what to know, how to teach it, and where to find it.
Each Task follows the PTS pattern: describe the elements, describe the common errors, demonstrate while explaining, then analyze and correct errors. Practice saying it out loud.
Use this guide with the current PTS, the Instrument Flying Handbook, the Instrument Procedures Handbook, the AIM, and your own instructor. Fly safe, and exceed the standard.
Exceed the Standard.
