Rayleigh-Jeans law, dictated that a black body in thermal equilibrium would emit radiation with infinite power at high frequencies. This was the Ultraviolet Catastrophe. The classical mathematics demanded a physical impossibility: an infinite energy output from a finite source, tearing reality apart at the ultraviolet spectrum.

To prevent the collapse of theoretical physics, an act of mathematical desperation was required. The continuous wave had to be murdered.

The solution was quantization. Energy could no longer be treated as a continuous fluid; it had to be distributed in discrete, indivisible, rigid packets. The total energy (E) of each packet is directly proportional to its frequency (f), locked permanently by a fundamental constant of the universe (h).

There is no "in-between." There is no smooth gradient. An electron absorbing or emitting this energy does not slide smoothly between orbits; it ceases to exist in one state and instantly materializes in the next. The continuum is an illusion.
