Finding the Names — Installment 77 (Roll 9, 1843) — FREE
Finding the Names — Installment 77 closes Roll 9 of the New Orleans inward slave manifests (National Archives Microfilm Publication M1895, Roll 9, NAID 173909088), images 601–721: 900 more entries (886 named, 14 unnamed) on 65 manifests, transcribed name by name from the original records, July to November 1843. Roll 9 is complete: 3,405 entries in Installments 72–77.
Inside: the barque Parthian's 104 on one Richmond sailing — her sheets reconciling exactly with her certificate once Charlotte Denniss's child is counted — and 50 more under the same master four days later. The ship Scotia's 98 under three manifests on one sailing, Slatter's 73 nearly all under full two-part names. Cary Hill, who did not answer at the muster, while a boy of his exact age and description answered under the name Jefferson Wright. Isabella Wilson, 10, endorsed "was not shipped" though her certificate counted her. And the roll's own end targets: "Roll 9 of 30 — End of Roll."
