India is not a country you visit — it is a country you enter, operating at enormous scale and intimate human distance at once. This journey moves through several of the civilizations that live inside it: imperial Delhi, the Mughal monuments of Agra, the Rajput Pink City of Jaipur, the sacred river at Varanasi, the color and chaos of Holi in Mathura and Vrindavan, and the tropical backwaters of Kerala — connected, in the middle, by an overnight train that is half the point. You won't see all of India. You couldn't. Instead you'll let its worlds build into one another until you leave knowing there's always another India waiting.
