The captain of the Hornet is badly injured while saving his crew. To save his life he is given cybernetic parts. Those parts make him a second class citizen, and among other things he can not serve as captain.
As he learned to accept his new role he becomes more aware of the humanity of the other cyborgs on his ship and continues to try to protect all of his crew.
