Your retriever found the right chunk and the answer was still wrong — this is the working half of the discipline that fixes what happens after retrieval. 42 production templates & checklists distilled from Chapters 7–12 + Appendices A–B of Advanced RAG Patterns: give every chunk its address back with contextual retrieval, assemble context like an interface, rerank with a cascade that earns its latency, spend depth per question with an adaptive controller, prove quality stage by stage, guard the failure modes, and compose it all into one platform. PDF + Markdown source.

## The right chunk was in the top five. The answer was still wrong.

The chunk was real. The embedding was good. But stripped from its document during chunking, the chunk did not know which agreement it belonged to, which year "this period" meant, or whose obligations it described — so the model answered confidently, citing a fee from a completely different contract. In the book's fictional post-incident review, 38 percent of sampled failures (an illustrative figure, labeled as such in the book) were not retrieval misses at all. **Advanced RAG Patterns — Part 2** is the working half of the discipline that decides what happens after retrieval: 42 copy-paste templates and checklists distilled from Chapters 7–12 and Appendices A–B of the advanced retrieval book — engineer the context because the model sees only the assembly, decide with a reranking second pass what deserves assembly, spend retrieval depth per question instead of per pipeline, prove quality stage by stage, name the advanced failure modes and bind them with flags and budgets, and compose everything into one operable platform.

Every template carries the book's tested positions built in: a situating context of 50–100 tokens prepended before embedding *and* before BM25, an assembly pipeline that dedupes, compresses extractively, orders for primacy and recency, and budgets tokens by marginal value, a reranking cascade whose illustrative shape runs 200 → 50 → 12 → 5 with widths set from your own recall curves, rerank value reported as nDCG lift per millisecond and per dollar on your own queries, an adaptive controller with a written policy table and hard budgets, stage metrics with thresholds that trigger action instead of discussion, a failure taxonomy with a freeze–bisect–read debugging method, and a platform in five movements plus a control plane. Where the book gives a number — a threshold, a cascade width, a TTL, an illustrative case-study outcome — the template labels it as the book's example or the book's illustrative figure for you to measure against; bracketed fields are yours to fill. Nothing here invents a result for your system.

### Who this is for

Search and platform engineers whose RAG system passed its demo and plateaued in production, relevance and AI engineering leads who own retrieval quality, and architects composing hybrid, agentic, and self-correcting patterns into one system they must operate at 3 a.m. The source book assumes a working baseline pipeline — chunking, embeddings, an index, grounded generation — and builds beyond it. If your team argues about whether a bad answer was "the model" or "the data" because no stage has its own number, start at Template 19.

### What this pack is not

- **Not Part 1.** Hybrid retrieval and rank fusion, query transformation and routing, agentic retrieval, self-correcting pipelines (CRAG & Self-RAG), and multi-hop retrieval are the book's Chapters 1–6. They live in the Part 1 companion pack (Product #16); nothing here restates them, and this pack is complete and useful without them.

- **Not the baseline pipeline.** Product #2, RAG Architecture Templates, covers the baseline — chunking, first-pass retrieval, grounding, and production checklists — from a different book. This pack assumes that baseline and goes beyond it: contextual retrieval, the reranking cascade, adaptive depth, stage-wise evaluation, and the platform. No baseline template is restated here.

- **No runnable code or tooling.** The book's assembler, cascade, controller, harness, and guardrail sketches are simplified, structurally honest shapes. The pack ships the templates that specify, audit, and operate these components — not a working assembler, reranker, controller, evaluation harness, or platform.

- **No benchmark, results, or guarantee claims.** Every gain figure in this pack is the book's and is labeled as the book reports it — reported ranges, or illustrative figures from its fictional case studies. Your lift depends on your corpus and your query distribution; several templates exist precisely to force that measurement before you spend.

- **No compliance crosswalk or certification.** No framework mapping ships in this pack, and the sign-off gate in Template 42 is a Chapter 12 production gate — not a compliance certification. Where the book hands security depth to its sibling volumes, Template 28 says so plainly.

- **No vendor or model guidance.** No embedding model, reranker, vector store, or managed platform is selected or configured here. Template 34 is the book's build-versus-buy decision framework — consequences, not product picks.

### Companion products

**Advanced RAG Patterns — Part 1: Hybrid Retrieval, Query Craft & Agentic RAG** (Product #16) is this pack's sibling, built from Chapters 1–6 of the same book: a companion for the retrieval-side patterns this pack deliberately does not restate — never a requirement for this pack to work. **RAG Architecture Templates** (Product #2) is the baseline companion from the *RAG Architecture* book. This pack stands alone.

*Note: the $99 Architecture Templates Bundle currently contains Products #1–#3 only. This pack launches standalone; no bundle inclusion is promised for this product.*

Built by the author of **Advanced RAG Patterns: Hybrid, Agentic, and Self-Correcting Retrieval Architectures**, from the retrieval discipline behind production enterprise AI systems.
