For Business Analysts, Process Owners, and Product Managers

A comprehensive worksheet to use for objectively measuring and scoring the quality of organizational business processes and business process management competency.

Business process management assessments are a common activity within the business process analysis discipline. One of the challenges when conducting an analysis is to create an analysis that is objective and measurable. In other words, keep emotion and opinion out of it.

That's what this Business Process Assessment Worksheet is all about: objective measurement of specific criteria, grouped by category.

Use this Process Assessment Worksheet for the following purposes:

  • The background data needed to create a credible Gap Analysis report
  • Discover, qualify, and quantify process performance problems
  • Discover, qualify, and quantify process management problems
  • Identify and prioritize performance improvement targets
  • Establish a quantified baseline to measure against improvement efforts
  • Identify training needs

The following categories are covered in the worksheet:

  • Strategy and Leadership
  • Process Design
  • Process Execution
  • Process Outputs Quality
  • Process Integration
  • Process Documentation
  • Process Performer Training
  • Process Management Training
  • Process Control
  • Process Measurement
  • Performer and Manager Measurement

Each criteria within each category is described with a title, a description of exactly what is measured, and a seven-point scale of metrics, with a description of each point along the scale.

For example, in the Process Execution category, there is the criteria, "Process Time: Efficiency." At the top of the scale a rating of "6" is described as, "Maximum efficiency realized. Virtually cannot be improved." At the bottom of the scale is the rating "0" which is described as, "Inefficiencies unrecognized. No efforts to discover or improve." Falling in-between is the rating of "3" with a description of, "Efficiency not optimized. Improvement is recognized as needed. Optimization efforts were attempted, but not always sustained."
