Turning explores the winding, often contradictory journey of coming of age. As the narrator moves through different stages of life, each new relationship and experience reshapes their understanding of themselves. Shifting between vulnerability, wonder, heartbreak, and joy, the music traces the ways we are changed by those who see us, challenge us, and help us grow. This work was commissioned by Young New Yorkers' Chorus and Alex Canovas, artistic director, for the 2025-26 Daniel Thompson Memorial Competition for Young Composers.
