Hot Chocolate River - Team Building Initiative
Team Building Initiative - Crossing a river of Hot Chocolate!
This activity is from my 'outdoor-ed' teaching days. The kids absolutely love it, and get a good challenge in communication and cooperation with a light hearted theme. I do this during the first weeks of school with all of my core French classes, and then usually again in June during a play day station I'm running, to see how much they have improved!
The basic 'low down'.... Students need to work together to cross a raging river of burning hot chocolate, with only one 'marshmallow' each they can float on. They are not successful unless everyone gets across safely.
As they make mistakes and stop communicating, they start to loose marshmallows, and have to make due with less than one / student, forcing them to come up with a plan to either work together or completely fail and have to talk & learn about it LOL!
Included in this activity...
- Teacher Activity Overview Google Slides (editable) with explanations of everything needed
- PDF of teacher instructions & midway through questions, and debriefing questions for the end
- French Version of student instructions (PDF)
- English Version of student instructions (PDF)
You will need to provide one 'marshmallow' per student (either cut out of cardboard or chopped up yoga mats from dollar store).
A google slides copy link will be delivered to you, upon purchase, in a PDF document. The link will direct you to make your own editable copy of the slides, and voila, you're all set! - everything you need is in there! Have fun!
