The Eöl Cowl is inspired by Eöl, the Dark Elf, from Tolkien’s The Silmarillion. He learned smithcraft from the dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost and was one of the few elves to maintain a close friendship with the dwarves. He lived in the forest of Nan Elmoth, where he forged several famous blades. The triangular motif in the texture and colorwork sections are reminiscent not only of the pines of the forest but also of the geometric designs often used by the dwarves and those inspired by their craft. The pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

Measurements

Depth - approximately 12in (30.5cm)

Circumference - approximately 28in (71cm)

Gauge

The key to gauge in this pattern is not so much getting the correct number of stitches in a certain space as ending up with a knitted fabric that you love. That being said, my gauge for this pattern was 14.5 sts = 4” in 1x1 rib and 14 sts = 4” in stockinette worked in the round, taken after blocking.
